The FEE grants Blue Flag awards every year to marinas that meet certain criteria, which have been increasingly demanding since 2000, concerning legality, sanitation, cleaning, safety and environmental information and management. The initial requirements for applying for the award consist of being a sea or river port with pontoons given over to leisure boats and having a boatyard and repair area, waste collection, selective collection containers, preventive safety elements and associated posters, rescue and first aid equipment, fire extinguishing equipment and a panel and informative map about the Port. It is also necessary to appoint a person responsible for promoting the campaign and actions linked to the Blue Flag, and being prepared to allow the FEE to carry out the corresponding inspections to confirm that all requirements are met.
